Meet Richard McConney

Today’s staff spotlight is on the incredible Richard McConney.  His fun and magnetic personality suits him well as a Maitre’d here at The Palace.  Clients gravitate towards him and is an extreme asset to our team.  Here is a little Q and A we did with him so you can meet man that truly knows what goes on behind the scenes.  

What three character traits would your friends use to describe you?

Loyal, honesty and willingness to always be there.

 

Do you have any hobbies?

Traveling, reading, theater, movies.  I spend most of my time on the beach in the summer.

 

What was the most stressful situation you have faced as maitre D?

Time management both with the staff and the client.

 

What skills do you need to be a good maitre d’?

Organization as well as having a good insight to the client’s needs. Also a strong attention to detail.

 

How did you end up in your present position?

I was in the hotel business for several years. My executive housekeeper heard of the opening through her daughter who had previously worked for me also. The change in the 24/7 position I had made this position at the Palace very appealing.

 

How do you work under pressure?

I thrive on pressure, it enhances my self-assurance levels.

 

Do the hours have an impact on your social life?

Yes the weekend and late night work is always a challenge, but being in this line of work for several years I come to work it out.

 

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you while working at an event?

Cutting an upside down wedding cake attached to a swing

 

Best part of the job?

I am lucky to be a part of the happiest days of people’s life.

 

Worst part of the job?

There isn’t a worst part but if I would to change anything it would be the late hours and early turn around.

 

As an essential tool to get us through the day, we’d like to know how you take your coffee.

Iced coffee with nonfat half and half if possible

 

If I wasn’t a maitre d’ I’d be a…?

I would always be involved in the food industry probably I would be a restaurant owner or something to do with the design field. I love to be creative.
